Port Elgin was originally established for its port facilities to service the surrounding agricultural region.  Today it is considered one of the premier tourist and recreation destinations in Ontario.

Employment in the town and surrounding area is supported by the Bruce Nuclear Generation facility and all the many supporting businesses.

The community is undergoing considerable expansion with new subdivision development to provide greater options for the growing residential base.  As the business hub north of the town of Goderich, Port Elgin has a tremendous variety of shopping options, theatres, dining establishments and sports venues.

A full spectrum of schooling is available right in the town of Port Elgin and your healthcare is well looked after with medical and dental clinics, the Optimize Healing Centre and Grey Bruce Health Services.

Port Elgin and the Municipality of Saugeen Shores have a total population of 12,500.You can enjoy all that the outdoors has to offer in average daytime high temperatures from 16° C in May to almost 25° C in mid-summer (61° to 77° F).

This quiet community has everything you can imagine to fill your days and nights.  From miles of beach, hiking and biking trails to the Bruce County Playhouse and the Museum & Cultural Centre.  Enjoy the annual Pumpkinfest each October where a world record was set in 2009 with a pumpkin weighing in at 1,678 lbs.  That’s a lot of pumpkin pie… You will not regret checking out Port Elgin as a place to spend your recreation time no matter the season or to raise your family!

Home Purchase – A total of 103single family homes were sold in 2015 with an average sale price of just over $281,000.  The lowest sale price was $159,000 while the highest value home sold for $585,000.  Twenty-nine condominiums were sold in 2015 with an average sale price of $223,565 and the range of sale prices went from $142,000 to $550,000.


When travelling south to Kincardine there is about 35 km of lakeshore.  There were a total of 54 homes sold in this area in 2015 at an average sale price of $259,595.  The lowest value sale was for $63,000 while the highest sale price was $560,000.

Vacant Land

There is a good selection of fully and partially serviced lots around the Port Elgin area.  Many of these lots are a half acre in size and are listed for between $150,000 and $190,000 while smaller quarter acre lots are listed at just below $120,000.  South of Port Elgin and down to Kincardine you will find rural lots available for as low as $55,000 and up to $300,000 for lakefront land.

Retirement options
